HOW TO CALCULATE POWER STORE
When you are going to buy a UPS and battery for use during the days of a temporary power outage, you need to carefully consider the following 3 factors:
- Determine the total capacity of the entire load
- Time to use
- The capacity of the battery
The steps and formulas commonly used for calculation are as follows:
Step 1: Calculate the total actual usage capacity, you can refer to the reference table of some common equipment in the office and home in Table 1. When the power is out, you should only use the equipment. It is necessary not to use appliances such as when the power is on, such as using fans instead of air conditioners, turning off refrigerators or electric cookers.
Step 2: Calculate the capacity of the power bank, if the device used only includes electronic devices with small starting current such as LCD screen, computer, TV, lamp, fan, the capacity of the UPS should be large. 1.5 times the total actual capacity calculated in step 1. If the equipment has a large starting current such as air conditioner, refrigerator, laser printer, pump, the capacity of the UPS must be at least 2 times of the total. capacity, if the number of devices of this type is much, it may be necessary to 2.5 or 3 times of the total capacity.
Step 3: Determine the time to use the system, depending on the needs and the actual number of power outages in a day, we carefully calculate to advise you on the most reasonable and economical choice of equipment.
Step 4: Apply the formula to calculate with one of the following formulas:
AH = (T * W) / (V * pf) | To calculate the total capacity of the battery (AH) if you determine the time to use the system (T), the total power (W), the charger voltage (V), pf = 0.7 or 0.8 depending on the type. UPS |
T = (AH * V * pf) / W | To calculate the operating time (T) of the system if you know the total capacity of the AH battery, the total capacity of the device (W), the charger voltage (V), pf = 0.7 or 0.8 depending on the type. UPS |
- T: The time it takes to power the system
- W: Total Power consumed in the system
- V: Voltage of the battery charging circuit (Number of batteries x 12Vol)
- AH: The capacity of the battery
- pf: UPS yield factor: typically 0.7 or 0.8
Note: the formula applies when specifying the type of 12V battery
Table 1: Reference capacity of some common equipment in the home and office
Numerical order | Device type | Conventional capacity |
1 | Switchboard 8-16 lines | 45W |
2 | Infrared camera | 15W |
3 | DVRs | 45W |
4 | Desktop sets | 300W |
5 | Fax machine | 45W |
6 | Modem network equipment | 10W |
7 | 32 "LCD TV | 80W |
8 | Laser printers | 250W |
9 | Laptop | 110W |
10 | Electric fan | 50-80 W |
11 | Lamp lighting 1.2m | 20-40 W |
12 | Air conditioner 2 HP | 1500W |
13 | Air conditioner 1.5 HP | 1100W |
14 | Air conditioner 1.0 HP | 750W |
15 | Fridge | từ 100W - 500W |
16 | Electric cooker | 500-700 W |
Specific example:
Choose a power bank and battery to run 2 laptops, 1 laser printer, 1 fax machine, network system, 2 1m20 lights, 1 set of office computer, 1 switchboard used when power is out for 8 hours (Assuming power failure for 1 day).
Step 1: Actual capacity = (2 * 110) + 250 + 45+ 10 + (2 * 40) + 300 + 45 = 950W
Step 2: W = 950 * 1.5 = 1425W, you need to choose a UPS capacity of about 1400W, so you should choose UPS 2000VA (SANTAK C2KS), 96V is suitable.
Step 3: On demand, using time T = 8 working hours.
Step 4: Capacity of battery calculated by formula 1 is
- According to actual capacity: AH = (8 * 950) / (96 * 0.7) = 113Ah. So you need to buy at least 8 batteries 120Ah / 12V for sure.
- According to peak capacity: AH = (8 * 1400) / (96 * 0.7) = 166Ah. So you need to buy at least 8 batteries 150Ah / 12V for sure.
- So how to choose to buy batteries accordingly? If you use the correct capacity of the device and definitely use 8 hours / day, you only need 8 batteries of 120Ah, if you want to use a few more devices, you should choose 8 batteries of 150Ah type to make sure. overloaded.
